The Dayboro Times and Moreton Mail of 13th November 1954 reported
“CR. NORMAN J. KELLY RECEIVES WARM WELCOME
Making his first appearance at the Pine Shire Council at the last meeting, Cr. N.J. Kelly received a cordial welcome from the Chairman (Cr. J. Bray), and all other Councillors present. Cr. Kelly’s election to fill the vacancy on No.3 Division, created by the death of the late Cr. Bill Bradley, was by the unanimous choice of all electors in the Division.
First Member of Fine Old Dayboro Family to Join the Council
The newly elected Councillor is a member of the Kelly family who were among the early pioneers in Dayboro, and is, indeed, the first member of that family to be elected to Council. He has had a most distinguished career, having served for three and a half years as a Wireless Air Gunner abroad, in the R.A.A.F. President of the Dayboro Branch R.S.S.A.I.L.A., a member of the local Hall Committee, School Committee and, indeed, most other public bodies in Dayboro. He is 36 years of age, married, with a wife and five children…”
Norm Kelly was also the first Show Society President. He served as a Division 3 Councillor until 29th April 1961 when he did not stand for re-election. The family moved from their dairy farm to Windsor in July 1963.
