Mt Pleasant Community Hall celebrates its 110th anniversary this year.  The Mt Pleasant School of Arts and Hall was opened on Friday 20th May 1910 with a sports meeting during the day and a ball in the evening.

The Brisbane Courier of 24th May 1910 reported “…The residents of Mount Pleasant, Upper North Pine, have during the past three months collected money to erect a School of Arts and hall, and the builders have just handed over the new building…To celebrate the occasion the Building Committee held a sports day and ball, to which the whole of the school children for miles around were invited…Nine schools were represented, the Minister for Education having kindly granted a general holiday…In the evening the new School of Arts was opened by a ball, over 100 persons being present. Mr. W. Battersill had charge of the dancing arrangements, and Mrs. Doyle provided excellent music.  The new hall is constructed of hardwood, being 34ft. x 20ft., with two dressing rooms attached, and is lighted by acetylene gas.”

The builders were John Bond, father of Mrs. Doyle, and Don McKaskill.  Working bees were held to help with the construction of the hall.
