The reason for the date range between 1912 and 1920 is that Bob Vellnagell’s house and store can be seen in this photograph and they were built in 1912. The railway line is not in the photograph and it was constructed in 1920.
Richard Gordon (Dick) O’Neil came to work at the Silverwood Store as a young man abt.1908. He later ran a grocery store in partnership with Don McKenzie and then Ernie Lindenberg on the corner of what are now Williams and Bradley Streets. Dick O’Neil was a keen photographer and a number of his photographs were published in the newspapers of the time. He and his family moved to a store on the Maroochy River in May 1926. He left a legacy of a wonderful collection of photographs taken between 1908 and 1926.
