Dayboro-Brisbane Motor Service Booking Office – McKenzie Street c. 1926

The Booking Office of the Dayboro-Brisbane Motor Service was located in front of the house that is now 18 McKenzie Street on the corner of McKenzie Street and Delaney Road. Delaney Road had not been constructed at the time this photograph was taken. It was just a track through the gate. The Daily Standard of 23rd June 1926 reported that Mr. E. Richards had his bus licence renewed by Brisbane City Council for the route from Dayboro to Adelaide Street, Brisbane.
Some years later the office building was re-located to the block behind the house and fronted on to Delaney Road. It was used as a residence for quite a number of years.
The little fellow is Sydney Norris Kelly who was born on 6th March 1924. Syd Kelly enlisted in the R.A.A.F. on 29th June 1942. Sadly he lost his life over Germany on 23rd May 1944, aged 20. He was buried in Rheinberg War Cemetery, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. He had attained the rank of Flight Sergeant.
