In 1976 Michael Cruice, who was then publican of the Crown Hotel, organised a charter flight for a small group of locals to fly over Lake Eyre which was full at the time. On the way they also flew over Dayboro – you can even see the wingtip.
Running beside Terrors Creek as it snakes its way to the North Pine River, the path of the railway line can be clearly seen. It was very close to the creek just past the bowling green which is sitting in splendid isolation almost in the middle of the photo. The creek now known as Sugar Mill Creek can also be seen in the foreground.
No swimming pool, no tennis courts, no Hay Cottage, no Tullamore Park, not a lot of houses in Cruice and Roderick Streets – our town has certainly grown quite a lot in the past 41 years.
