Andrew McKenzie was born at North Pine River 150 years ago on 17th January 1867. He was the fifth child of John McKenzie and Janet Fulton, and was the first non-indigenous child born in the district. He married Sophie Friedrich Dietz on 23rd December 1891. In the 1920s he opened a General Store in McKenzie Street on the right hand side near the top of the hill. In May 1925 he sold the store to George Pedler and, with two of his sons, took up a sheep property in the Boulia district. By 1934 they had returned to Dayboro and Andrew and Sophie later retired to Eagle Junction. Andrew McKenzie died on 5th September 1947, aged 80.
